GENERAL
Roy's early life was centered on various farms in the district where he grew up, but never far from the town of Brigg. He served in the 5th Lincolnshire Regement joining up on the 11th of August 1914 and was discharged ( having been wounded in the stomach) on 10th of April 1916. He recieved the 1914-15 Star and the British War and Victory Medals. He was a fair marksman and won a silver cup which is still in the possesion of his family. He emigrated to Canada with his first wife. They sailed on the SS Minnedosa from Liverpool on July 23rd arriving in Quebec on July 30th 1920. He was employed as a teamster and foreman at several establishments in Hamilton, Ontario and was also actively involved with the 2nd Dragoons in Hamilton from 1924 to 1927. He and his first wife separated in 1928 and he subsequently married again and changed his name to Roland Beecroft. Between 1929 and 1935 he had several jobs such as farm labourer, bricklayer and odd job man. He joined th R.C.Signals in August 1941 and was demobbed on 21st August 1946. He received the Canadian Volenteer Service Medal.
